From the Principal
As this year unfolds, I take pleasure in reporting that we have been fortunate to celebrate our excellent school with a strong focus not only on our Teaching and Learning but on the holistic development of each student.
We have demonstrated this with a focus on our values and the development of “Quality” tools designed to establish codes of conduct in each grade that are in harmony with the whole school values:-
Respect, Teamwork & Cooperation, Care & Friendship, Resiliency and Safety.
The care and promotion of staff and student Welfare is a key point of development at Kingsbury. We strive to continually deliver learning through the strong links between your school and your home – this aims to encourage a positive learning experience for all of us, students, teachers and parents!
During the first part of this year we have celebrated Education Week. Our activities were able to demonstrate the Education is “Wheelie Fun”! Not only did we spend a great deal of time developing the physical health of our students but also their educational. We had an exciting Book Fair managed by our wonderful Parents and Friends group; we were able to sponsor a Science incursion where students made wind powered “toys”; we held open classrooms in both the mornings and one evening and the culmination of our celebration was a fantastic parents information Forum on “Thinking Mathematically”.
The committed and experiences Staff are engaged in the study of mathematical thinking. This happens across three sub-groups: Prep/One; Grade 2/3; and the Senior School. Teachers are offering opportunities for students to take responsibility of their learning with negotiated open-ended tasks. Many of these skills will be reporter to parents at the 3-Way Conferences in late June. Students and teachers take joint responsibility of reporting to parents. The Conferences allow students, teachers and parents to have a learning conversation about the future goals and targets for each student in their care.
We offer many special programs at Kingsbury not the least is our transition program for our Kinder to Prep students but also for our Senior students ready to make the leap to one of our many quality Secondary Colleges in this area. This change from primary to secondary education is supported with a special “Transition Camp” – this will be held in October this year.
As with this we also offer in 2008:-
Bounce Back resiliency program
A Healthy Foods Canteen
Literacy intervention programs
Broad Information and Computer Technologies Program
Celebration of the visual and performing arts
Annual Christmas Concert for families
A fully integrated Library
Intra and inter-school sport
