Kingsbury Primary is fortunate to have such a strong Parents Group who is committed to seeing students making healthy food choices. Our canteen is operated by a dedicated group of volunteers, and is open for lunch orders and over the counter sales.
The school Canteen is available for students to order healthy lunches and snacks at very reasonable prices. The canteen is managed by Mrs Chris Mountney, as a school council employee. Chris is fully qualified in food handling and food safety, being regularly monitored by the Darebin Council’s Health Department.
Chris needs to have a reread team of volunteer helpers to manage the morning recess counter sales and the “bagging” and delivery of lunches to the classrooms for the Canteen to maintain its low cost philosophy.
Canteen operates on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, from 8:30 am to receive orders, at 11:00 am for the purchase of recess snacks and then again at 1:40 pm for the sale of treats like frozen fruits, “Zooper Doopers”, juice, cookies and other snack foods. The School Council stipulates that the seasonal menu is filled with nutritious options, which are low in fat, salt and sugar. The Canteen does not serve fried food or soft drink. The menu is sensitive to the many cultural and religious needs of our community and offers Halal and Vegetarian options as well as the usual array of child friendly lunch foods.
If you would like to be part of this happy band of Volunteers, then call by the Canteen most mornings and ask to speak with Chris, she would love to see you.
